Arrochar Litter Sink

Marine plastic litter is an issue on the Argyll and Bute coastline. Due to the unique topography of the Clyde estuary marine litter is driven towards certain "sink" locations. Tidal currents, winds and the Earth's spin mean that litter is concentrated in locations such as Arrochar, Helensburgh and Lochgoilhead:

The CFD study below was run over a time period of 8-days. It shows how the plastic litter is carried by tides and a predominantly south-westerly wind towards hot spots around Arrochar, Helensburgh and Lochgoilhead. The background map serves as a guide to the litter location.
